The weather is getting warmer and with that comes summer and seasonal hiring. As an employer you need to be prepared. You need the same information for a seasonal/summer employee that you do for a full-time employee.
The forms and documentation you will need from your employees are as follows:
- W-4 (Employee’s Withholding Certificate)
- I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) including acceptable documents (listed on form) to establish both identity and employee authorization
- Certificate of Residency
- Direct Deposit Authorization (if applicable)
- 4029 (Exemption from Social Security and Medicare Taxes) (if applicable)
*Remember if you are hiring a high schooler age 14-17 you will also need a copy of their working papers. You also need to be familiar with the Child Labor Laws to determine permittable working hours and duties for individuals 17 years old and younger. These can be found on the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s website here.
Also, keep in mind the state minimum wage is $7.25 per hour.
